Overview
Post graduation, I found myself setting foot into the wilds of agency life for the first time, and with it a world of possibilities and connections it had to offer. I was soon met with a challenge by one particular agency that pushed the boundaries of what it means to be unique, harnessing fascination as the foundation for bold and brilliant work. Since then, the BSMNT has been my home to collaborate with a remarkably talented group of creatives and celebrate all things weird and wonderful.
The Solution
This collection showcases some of the internal projects I’ve had the privilege of contributing to beyond the scope of our regular client work. From motion graphics to illustration, each opportunity allowed me a chance to refine my skills or push my creative thinking beyond the usual boundaries.
POETRY IN MOTION.
Being an agency designer doesn’t mean going through the motions—it’s about going beyond them.
Every story has a rhythm, and every brand has a pulse. The key? Captivating your audience at 24
frames per second. We’ve used animation to introduce brands to new markets, breathe life into still
illustrations, and craft bold visual narratives. From GIFs to short films, animation allows us to
capture attention, push creative boundaries, and celebrate everything that fascinates us.
MURAL, MURAL, ON THE WALL.
After years of working from home due to COVID, transitioning back to a formal office setting felt exciting and
a little awkward. Where were the comforts of our home workspaces that we had all grown so accustomed to?
The cozy knick-knacks and comfy chairs? The inspirational kitty posters telling us to “Hang in There!”?
It was easy to worry that a corporate space wouldn’t feel as inviting—or like us.
The solution? Bring those comforts with us—along with our signature BSMNT personality—
to liven up our bare office walls. I was tasked specifically with designing our two phone booth
pods, attempting to make them seem bigger on the inside than what they really were.
Finding the right tone and spatial illusion was a challenge—especially when you’re
a bit tight on wiggle room. The goal for the initial concepts were to break the mold and
push beyond the physical limits of the space, much like how we approach all of our work.
After sketching several iterations, I landed on two distinct directions for the phone booths:
urban graffiti and an expressive art gallery. Once the style was locked in, it was
my turn to let my inner dweller loose. And the results were pretty damn cool.
REPPIN’ GEAR FROM EAR TO EAR.
At the Basement, we recognized that if you want work that gets worn, you have to make it worth the wear.
Think of the last time you were at a trade show or job fair. Can you remember the companies there and
the goodies they gave you? Chances are, you probably can’t. And if you do, it’s likely not something
you would use too often, or chucked in a bin and promptly forgot (looking at you, drawer full of pens).
So should the swag stop altogether? We say: swag better. To own the merch game you need to
give away something worth proudly owning. Below is a collection of thoughtfully designed items we
planned to share with satisfied clients—as both a genuine thank you and a way to leave a mark that lasts.
